Moor mud is one of the oldest natural products there is, formed over thousands of years by a slow biochemical process, and it's been used for generations in both people and animals.

The humic and fulvic acids are the working part. They support gastrointestinal activity by binding harmful substances in the intestine and flushing them out, they protect the intestinal mucosa, and they stimulate the appetite. So it's digestion and immune support, firmer and more consistent stools, and a bit of help for a dog who's gone off their food.

Which size? The 300g is the right place to start, and for a cat or a small dog it goes a long way. If you've a bigger dog on four or five teaspoons a day you'll get through it noticeably faster, so it's worth thinking of the 300g as the tub you try it with rather than the one you settle on.

Storing it. Keep it somewhere dry and out of the light. The fridge is fine, so is a cupboard. Before you put the lid back on, wipe away any condensation that's gathered, and check it every so often. Where it comes from, and the peat question

If you've bought peat-free compost, or followed anything about peatland restoration, you may reasonably wonder about a peat-based supplement. It's a fair question and AniForte answer it directly, so here's their explanation.

The peat extraction behind this is not the same process as peat harvesting for potting soil. Horticultural peat extraction usually involves draining the moorland first, which significantly disrupts the environment and can take decades for the ecosystem to recover.

AniForte's method is designed to keep the moor wet, because the muddy, waterlogged conditions are what create the composition in the first place. The top layer of the moor is carefully removed, small amounts of the nutrient-rich mud underneath are taken, and the top layer is then put back so the moor regenerates naturally over the following years.

The moorlands in Germany they source from are under strict protection, and AniForte state they are committed to minimising the environmental impact of it. The mud itself comes from the oldest moor spa in Bavaria.
