Here are tips for storing your dog’s winter gear:

Storing Dog Coats

  1. Clean and fully dry before storing (click here forwashing instructions). Particles left on clothing can stain and stink while in storage, and also more likely to attract insects.
  2. Secure all buckles and zippers.
  3. Fold garments from heaviest to lightest. Loosely folded clothes can trap air.
  4. Store in an air-tight container or storage bag to prevent dust from accumulating. Good storage containers include plastic bins, vacuum-seal bags, or even an old suitcase.
  5. If moths and insects are an issue, store with cedar hangers or blocks.
  6. Store in a clean, cool, dark, and dry place to prevent fading and mildew.

Storing Dog Boots

  1. Brush off loose dirt and dust with a dry cloth.
  2. Clean and fully dry before storing (click here for washing instructions).
  3. Particles left on boots can stain and stink while in storage, and are more likely to attract insects.
  4. Spray insides with shoe deodorizer.
  5. Stuff the boots with non-acid paper to help keep shape and absorb any left over scent.
  6. Secure all buckles and zippers.
  7. Store inside the Ruff Wear boot bag and original boot box if available.
  8. Store separately from dog’s other garments.
  9. Store in a closet if possible, or inside an air-tight container in a clean, cool, dark, and dry place.
